Show Your Hands Some Love

Your hands never take a day off, so take some time to show them a little love and thank them for getting you through the day. Hand care isn’t a term you hear too often – usually hair and facial wellness take priority leaving little to no attention to the skin on our hands, but what most people don’t consider is that with all the work our hands do, they age the fastest. So, if you’re looking for timeless skin, read on and learn how you can keep your pretty digits in tip top shape.

Proper Handwashing

Over washing your hands can strip your skin’s moisture barrier, leading to dry, chapped, or cracked skin. Avoid washing your hands with hot water and set the temperature to lukewarm instead. Lukewarm water still kills bacteria while retaining moisture in your skin. If you tend to wash your hands a lot, consider purchasing moisturizing hand soap.

Sun Exposure

In the same way that you put sunscreen on your face before stepping out the door, you should also apply sunscreen to the tops of your hands. Doing so can protect from harmful UV rays that cause sunburn and skin cancer. Make it a habit to re apply every time you wash your hands.

Moisturize Regularly

Look for moisturizers that contain ingredients like shea butter, natural oils, and glycerin. If you have excessively dry skin, try applying hand cream, which is thicker and lasts longer than normal lotions. For more intense hand therapy, apply hand cream and then carefully place gloves to cover them overnight.

Hand care, although oftentimes overlooked, is definitely a wellness practice that should be added to your routine. With the colder months ahead, it’s even more important that you keep your hands happy and moisturized. If you’re looking for a hydrating skin treatment, call Cielo Spa to schedule an appointment.
